Ping Lin

Ms Lin is an accomplished artist in a variety of media ranging from sculpture, painting and Chinese calligraphy. She has won numerous prizes for her work in her native home of Chengdu. Along with her training in traditional Chinese art from Sichuan, she graduated in 1996 with an MA in Visual Art and Culture from the London Guildhall University. This has influenced her latest work, where she specialises in blending modern contemporary Western art with traditional Chinese art.

Ms Lin comes from a prestigious artistic background. Her mother was a Chinese opera singer, but most notably her grandmother, Chen Lian Shi, better known as 'The Double Gun Woman', is a national heroine. Famous for her exploits during the Chinese civil war, Ms Lin's grandmother was skilled in traditional Chinese painting with her work being exhibited nationally and internationally.

Ms Lin is also a budding author. She is currently writing a biographical book on her grandmother’s life.

Ms Lin was born in 1963 and currently lives in London and The Hague with her husband and baby daughter. Although her paintings have sold in Europe to private collectors, this is the very first time Ping Lin has exhibited in Australia.
